I skated the new 24 hour Worldrecord!

With 425.5 km, I set the new 24-hour world record at the 2024 UK Ultraskate. Wow, that was exhausting!

I think we tend to look up to individuals for what they've accomplished. However, in reality, these performances are never done alone. Huge thanks go out to my support team, who provided me with potatoes, müsli bars, banana cake, and water, and helped me get dressed in warm clothes after 9 hours (I could not do this alone anymore). A huge thanks to Florian, Michael, Paul, Viola, Stefan, and FH for skating with me. The biggest mental support you can have is skating together. Thanks also to all the small, beautiful encounters I had with each of you at the event. Without you, this would never have been possible! Together we are stronger.

Combining Both Worlds of Development and Professional Skating

Not only developing but also skating my products gives me a much better understanding of how construction changes impact their performance. By testing my prototypes, I can adjust the construction to improve performance. As a small company, I have the flexibility to develop boards that are 100% optimized for specific goals without the compromises usually required for mass production. My board, the "Platypusher," was 100% optimized for skating very long distances, and I am honored that this is now WR approved.

And what are you going to do now?

Considering that over the 203 laps of 2.096 km each, I faced almost 2000 meters of elevation (the UK Ultra is quite hilly), I feel confident that we can further increase the distance skated in 24 hours. On a flat track like the Dutch Ultraskate, this should have the best chances!

World Record breaking setup

I skated the world record on my Platypusher. This board is the lowest hybrid deck on the market! It's very efficient and stable for pushing. For its low height, it pumps really well.

It has a lot of impressive features:

  • Efficient Pushing: The Platypusher is incredibly low. You can set it up as low with 80mm wheels as with 100mm wheels. Simply use a 10mm riser to match the height of 80mm wheels to 100mm wheels. The same goes for a 5mm riser to make 90mm wheels fit.

  • Stable Pushing: The Platypusher’s flex pattern is very defined. You can control steering while pushing with great precision.

  • Safe to Skate: The Platypusher is low, but no bolts stick out. You can skate over many bumps. In rare occasions, it scratches a little, but most of the time, you roll over anything.

  • Efficient Pumping: Due to the small, lightweight Xle rear truck, this low board pumps really well. Of course, the MK Space truck makes pumping a lot easier as well! Furthermore, the Platypusher is properly reinforced with carbon fiber for optimal power transfer.

  • Comfortable Skating: No metal brackets attached to this board will transmit shocks and vibrations.

  • Integrated Threads: Integrated threads in the front and back allow you to mount all kinds of accessories! Perfect for a light or GoPro mount. Some crazy skaters even mounted a middle finger there!

  • Durable: Like all MK products, the board is built to last. You also don’t have issues with brackets breaking, as everything is made by MelonenKacke.

My Setup:

  • Platypusher V2 Prototype

  • MK Space Truck (75a Fatcone BS, 80a Barrel RS, 4mm Distance spacers)

  • MK Xle Truck (90a Tall Fatcones, 2mm Distance spacers)

  • Seismic Alphas Splitduro Mint LDP / Mango DH

  • Seismic Tekton Bearings
